Jessie Hale Downs—Mission Co-founder |
Jessie’s Place was established as a haven for homeless and hurting women and children seeking shelter while preparing to reach self-sufficiency.
Women and children are the fastest growing population of “new homeless.”
Jessie’s Place, named after The Jimmie Hale Mission’s co-founder Mrs. Jessie Hale Downs, is a 24-hour residential program in a safe, supportive, Christian environment. Located at 2305 5th Avenue North, this facility houses up to 35 women and children for three to six months.
Clients become involved in daily life skills training, Bible studies, case management, counseling, education remediation, career readiness, and children’s programs including play therapy. Because many women have children, the staff of Jessie’s Place attempts to provide an environment as stable, positive and normal as possible.
