  • The Jimmie Hale Mission (Birmingham, Ala.) held a grand opening October 18 to celebrate the completion of several new buildings, including a chapel, dining hall, recreational area, learning center, and business office. The open house and dedication ceremony also marked the renovation of a historic school building now used as a dormitory for homeless men. The 65-year-old mission observed the occasion with several hundred supporters. Local religious and government leaders took part in the festivities, including Congressman Artur Davis. Jimmie Hale Executive Director Tony Cooper says, "With the help of our supporters in the community, we were able to turn an old school building into a place of learning once again."
