  •      For many, Christmas is a time of goodwill and generosity.  Many times we get asked, "How can I help?"  Here's three ways you can help the less-fortunate, now and throughout the year:

Time - Time is a precious commodity.  You've probably often thought there's not enough hours in the day to accomplish all you need to, so can you understand how the gift of time is a very valuable one.  For just one hour, you can help serve a meal to the hungry and homeless we serve.  We know the power of a meal and how it can lead to a changed life.  If you give just one hour of your time, you can help make that change happen.

All it takes is one hour to volunteer!

Talent - Your talent is one that is unique to you.  Do you have a knack for decorating, singing or maybe you're good with kids?  Regardless of your talent, there's a way to put it to use.  You can volunteer as a Party Pal, get your choir group to sing during a chapel session or, if your talent is simply being a leader, you can organize a donation drive.  God blessed us with our own abilities - put them to use!

Volunteers from Altard State conducted a company food drive for the Mission

Treasure - If you have a calling to help 'in person,' that's great!  We'd love to see you.  But there is no denying the gift of a monetary donation.  Your donation is what makes all of our programs, services and yes, even volunteer opportunities, possible.  No gift is too great or too small - every little bit helps.  If you'd like to donate, you can do so by visiting our secure donation page or calling us (205) 323-5878.

So how will you help?  Will you give your time, talent or treasure?  Or maybe all three!

  •      Thanks to you, there'll be warm hearts and warm feet this winter!

Here's an update to a blog we brought you back in August.  From August 15 to September 3, the Jimmie Hale Mission was blessed to be a part of the Association of Gospel Rescue Mission's and Disney's Sock Drive campaign, inspired by the movie, The Odd Life of Timothy Green.

At five of our seven Mission Possible Bargain Centers and at the Carmike Summit 16 theatre, we placed donation boxes where you could donate socks to the homeless and hurting.

Well now the drive is over and the results are in!  Through the entire donation campaign, thousands of socks were donated and Hanes, a partnering organization, has donated an additional 10,000 pairs (to be distributed nationwide).

Thank you for your support and for keeping hearts and feet warm this winter!

  •       During the busy holiday season, we have three (count 'em - three!) days strictly dedicated to shopping: Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.  But what about a day to give back?

Enter the national movement, #GivingTuesday.  #GivingTuesday is a day to encourage others to donate and give back to the charity of their choice.  Instead of focusing on food or deals, it's a day to focus on helping others.

As you might can tell from the hashtag in the name, #GivingTuesday is a movement that was motivated and continues to thrive through social media.  Though you are encouraged to donate, you can also help by sharing the tag #GivingTuesday in your tweets or online posts.

If you'd like to take part in #GivingTuesday and the Jimmie Hale Mission is your charity of choice, then click here to make your donation now.  You can also donate your gently-used items as well.  Just click here to learn more about making your in-kind donation.

  •      With Thanksgiving less than a week away, the Jimmie Hale Mission prepares for the upcoming holiday...

    Recent Update:

Fox 6 visited the Mission to find out about the need for food and monetary donations
and how you can still help feed the hungry this Thanksgiving.

David Lamb of NBC 13's Daytime Alabama visited the Mission to see our preparations for Thanksgiving

    Thinking of Thanksgiving

The Jimmie Hale Mission and its three residential facilities - Shepura Men's Center, Jessie's Place and Royal Pines - are busy preparing for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.  Throughout the holidays, we'll serve hundreds of meals at our facilities to the homeless and hungry; hundreds more will be delivered to local seniors and shut-ins.

It's not too late! You can still help fill our empty shelves

Here, Tony Cooper, executive director, talks with CBS 42 about all of our different facilties and ministries and what we do during Thanksgiving (and how you can help!).  Check out the video and if you'd like to help, click here.
